Coruss’ beginnings

For more than 20 years we have seen a deterioration in the quality of natural horsehair, even in the case of world-renowned Mongolian horsehair. To understand what was driving this change, we travelled to meet Mongolian horse-breeders, who told us how climate change was affecting their herds’ diet and having a knock-on effect on the quality of their horsehair. We spent almost three years looking for a substitute fibre. After numerous attempts, we finally succeeded in creating synthetic bow hair that exceeded all our expectations! And that’s the story of how we created Coruss, the new generation of synthetic bow hair.

The significance of this new development

• We are now able to offer musicians an alternative to horsehair, one which boasts the same technical performance as natural hair but without the drawbacks. We are delighted to be able to offer our clients synthetic horsehair bows which are strong, long-lasting and unaffected by changes in humidity, whilst also delivering superb sound quality and excellent playing comfort.

• Our vision is both ethical and environmentally-sustainable. Our manufacturing is done locally and our production techniques have been carefully designed to minimize environmental impact. In addition to an extended life span, Coruss synthetic bow hair is recyclable. Coruss rosin is made in France using an eco-friendly, small-scale extractive approach.
